One thing is clear about this gentleman: he sure does know how to have a good time and make fun of himself. So, let’s try to learn how to draw Doraemon and grab a thing or two along the day. Use light strokes to create the foundation for this drawing – the rough sketch. If you’ve got skills, you can try to skip this step; the rest of us will use this guiding lines to ensure the proportions, the positions, and the sizes are right (00 min 39 sec).

It’s simple, really: draw a gigantic circle at the top of the paper and cut it in half with a horizontal line that goes all the way down to the bottom. Next, use a curvy horizontal line to define where the eyes will be (00 min 51 sec). Finally, draw two vertical and two horizontal lines at the bottom to create some sort of a guide for the hero’s body.

It’s important to get the head right, so, start with a straight line at the bottom of the light-stroke-circle and go over it just like I did in the video (01 min 38 sec). The eyes come next (01 min 50 sec). Make sure they’re overlapping and look like they’re staring at each other.

If you’re happy with the eyes, put the nose in (02 min 21 sec). It’s just as simple to draw and consists of two regular circles. Create a straight line going down and lock it with a horizontal curvy line to imitate the mouth. The mustaches will give our hero the right “cat touch” and make him look cute (02 min 47 sec). Six straight lines are all you’ll ever need to make ’em.

The body is pretty straightforward and will be a piece of cake if you’ve got some skills at this. If not, just follow the guidelines in our how to draw Doraemon manual and you’ll be fine. The key here is to keep the proportions right (especially when it comes to the feet). Erase the rough sketch at the very end and use my color combination to perfect the drawing.
