Before we begin, make sure to put your piece of paper in the same orientation as I did. And, put your first stroke in the same place as in the video; otherwise, you might run out of space on your paper :). Ok, now we can take a look at the how to draw ‘Super Dad’ – Fun Lettering tutorial (00 min 10 sec). We’ll need a rough sketch to work with.

As always, use light pencil strokes for this. If you’re an experienced lad/lassie, single strokes are the way to go for you. At the same time, if you’re a novice, fast, chaotic and repeated strokes will also work (00 min 32 sec). It doesn’t really matter as long as you get it right. So, create a rough patch like the one you see in the video and let’s move on.

Begin with the “S” on top of the drawing (01 min 46 sec). The goal here is to “hug” the rough guide. Do the same with the rest of the letters. They will help you give the letters a 3-dimensional look.

If you’re happy with that part, draw the “cloud” around the “Super Dad” (03 min 20 sec). It doesn’t have to be an exact copy of my cloud, by the way. The straight lines come next (03 min 36 sec). And what about the colors?

Some Things To Keep In Mind…

Start with rough but light pencil strokes that you can work into the shapes you want.

Once you have your rough drawing completed, go over it in a darker stroke for your final drawing.

Add shading and/or color to complete if desired.

Using this technique you will be able to draw anything after some practice... even without following step-by-step tutorials.
