How To Draw Sonic the Hedgehog

Learn How to draw Sonic the Hedgehog Quickly & Easily

I gotta point out right from the start that this how to draw Sonic the Hedgehog tutorial is a bit complex, but if you master it, you’ll be able to be proud of yourself. Ok, ready to dive in? Start with the hero’s upper eyebrow. Keep in mind that he’s looking to the left while you’re drawing. The eyebrow actually kinda marks where the eye should be, making it easier for us to place it (01 min 00 sec).

Yes, the eye is pretty big, but that’s a part of Sonic’s charm, so just go with it. The nose comes next (01 min 22 sec). It’s just a tiny oval shape that you should color black right from the start. Now, because the hedgehog is looking to the left, the right eye is so much bigger than the other one (01 min 45 sec). And, it “sits” on the nose. Go back to the big eye and draw the pupil in the center for both.

The next step of our how to draw Sonic the Hedgehog tutorial is the face (02 min 45 sec). Once you get that right, the character will come out. The mouth is as simple as it can be – just a curve on the right corner (03 min 02 sec). The eyebrows will add to his mighty expression (03 min 20 sec). The ears are pretty small, by the way, and simple (03 min 44 sec).

The spikes are the most important part – make sure to follow my video closely on this one (05 min 03 sec). There’s nothing hard about them; just keep the proportions right. We could stop with the spikes, but we’ve got a body to draw. The gloves on his hand are classic and give him that unique look (06 min 03 sec).

The body is very thin and primitive. The left hand is identical to the right one (07 min 34 sec). The legs are pretty long and Sonic has a cool pair of shoes on them (08 min 31 sec). Once you draw those, you’ll be done with our how to draw Sonic the Hedgehog tutorial.

Some Things To Keep In Mind…

These tutorials are only here to guide you. Your drawing does not need to look "identical" to mine.

Start with rough but light pencil strokes that you can work into the shapes you want.

Once you have your rough drawing completed, go over it in a darker stroke for your final drawing.

Add shading and/or color to complete if desired.

Using this technique you will be able to draw anything after some practice... even without following step-by-step tutorials.
